The “city of columns,” as Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier immortalized it, San Cristóbal de La Habana—Havana—has something to please all tastes. Its public squares and mansions with stained-glass windows and bannisters have made it a showcase ever since the 17th century, and, in 1982, UNESCO declared its original nucleus to be a part of world heritage.
The more modern part of the city, with its tree-lined avenues, contains the main offices of many businesses, cabarets and other recreational installations, beauty parlors and shopping malls that offer a wide range of products and services.
Rich in traditions, legends and history, the most important asset of Cuba’s capital is its people. Happy and uninhibited, Havana’s residents are noted for their friendliness. Many people fish, sit on or stroll along the Malecón Seawall Drive every evening, talking, singing or simply watching the sun go down over the water.
Havana has a solid infrastructure and exceptionally good conditions for holding conferences, congresses and other meetings. These installations include the International Conference Center, in the more modern part of the city; the PABEXPO fairgrounds; and meeting halls in several hotels. In addition, many agencies provide convention-related services.
With the coming of dusk, Havana’s night life takes center stage. Lights and performers come together in a colorful display. Party rooms and cabarets open their doors, and those who love culture flock to plays, ballets and other dance performances, and other cultural shows with taped and live music, all spiced with a touch of Cuban humor.
Havana puts on all her finery, this time to receive and keep company to hundreds of participants along one of the most importants events held in our country: the International Tourism Fair FITCUBA 09 . This 19th edition, will be held April 4 -8, and will be dedicated to the Federal Republic of Germany, and will be attended by a large group of tourism sector professionals, tour operators, travel agencies, carriers, organisms, associations and institutions and other representatives link to this smokeless industry. Our cities are full of historical and cultural charms, of a rich rich and varied buildings and its five-century old architectural styles, and this, with no doubt, make Cuba a different destination. The Morro-Cabaña Complex will be the venue of FITCUBA 09,on the other side of Havana Bay, from here the visitor will enjoy the beauty and architectural variety of Cuba´s capital.
