TOPES DE COLLANTES
This spectacularly beautiful protected natural scenic area has a delightful microclimate. It is in the Guamuhaya Mountains, around 2625 feet above sea level, in Santic Spiritus Province .
This is a pine woods area, with many paths for trekking and birdwatching. It is also a good place for learning about customs and traditions of the local inhabitants. The river fun through mountain valley and have lovely waterfall, such as Caburni Falls, Vegas Grande and El Rocio.
Because of its special climatic conditions and healthful environment, Topes de Collantes is the site of a national health rehabilitation center, where traditional medical techniques and physical therapy are employed to soothe stress and improve the quality of life.
It covers an area of 12,494 hectares and contains many endemic species of flora and fauna. Most of the flora is perennial, because there is plenty of rain. Here, you can see numerous species of orchids, moss, lichens, tree ferns, and pine and eucalyptus forests. In addition, there are many birds and invertebrates. Go out on trails to see the local flora and fauna, swim in natural pools and waterfalls, and explore any of its several caves.
