We are proud to be able to offer this exciting one of a kind birding safari to the republic of Cuba. It is our goal to introduce you to many of the 355 species that have been recorded on the island. This includes about 25 endemics that occur nowhere else in the world, as well as several distinctive races of mainland species. And, we will be on constant alert for sightings of the famed and, previously thought extinct Ivory Billed Woodpecker!
Meet and greet at Havana airport and private transfer to your hotel in Havana city.
After breakfast, we depart to the Vinales valley with your guide. Visit wooded areas and the Embalsa el Salto reservoir to see waders etc. Spend the night in Vinales. Dinner at hotel
Early start to visit La Guira national park. Species that can be seen include Olive-capped warbler, Cuban solitaire, scaly-naped pigeon along with great Lizard Cuckoo, cuban trojan / green woodpecker and bullfinch, and possibly Gundlachs hawk and giant kingbird.
Spend night in Vinales.
After breakfast, departure to Zapata and Playa Larga. Local birdwatching at Playa Larga and evening visit to see Barelegged and Stygian owls and nightjars. Spend night at Playa Larga Hotel.
Early rise to Zapata marshes to look for Zapata sparrow, wren and possibly rail. Afternoon visit to forests to see rare doves including blue-headed. Evening birdwatching if you wish. Spend night in Playa Larga.
Early rise to Soplillar zone to see Bee Hummingbird, cuban pygmy owl, fernandinas flicker, grey headed quail dove, caracaras and grassquits.
Afternoon visit to canals to see ducks, cuban toddy, warblers and possibly Gundlachs hawk. Spend night at hotel.
Visit Las Salinas to see waders and ducks including flamingoes, roseate spoonbills, glossy and white ibis, herons, pelicans, snail kite, peregrine falcon, belted kingfisher and others. Afternoon, we go to Playa Giron, the famous Bay of Pigs, to see cuban Grassquit, cuban periqueet, red-tailed and brown hawks, savannah sparrow etc. Optional visit to Bay of Pigs museum. Spend night in hotel
After breakfast, return to Havana for departure home or continuation of holiday (please enquire).
